Hello, and welcome to the Disclaimer for all the Character Profiles for the characters in Versus. My name is Dis, which is short for Disclaimer. As in the document you are reading. As in the document you SHOULD read before proceeding into Versus. I was created by Lords: KingLion (The author. Not the character you will soon meet. Although they are the same), MidnightDre, and the direction of the God of Fiction. He has granted them this knowledge and permitted them to bestow it to you. Be grateful, dear reader, as This is for your benefit. This welcome serves the purpose of describing some of the systems within Versus and how they affect the different worlds outside of it. If you choose to not read this, as you humans often do with other Terms and Conditions, KingLion, MidnightDre, and any other reader who did take the time to read this, cannot be blamed for your lack of understanding and the inevitable loss(es) you will surely take in debates involving Versus characters. You have been warned.
The Level
GaugE
This section of the Disclaimer (me) is dedicated to the descriptions for leveling and how it relates to the characters in Versus. I am only here to provide a description of these systems and how they will work in Versus so you won’t get lost. If you do, well then, I don’t know what to tell you. Get a compass maybe? Anyway, these descriptions are here to explain the features and mechanics of leveling. These will be important factors to remember, so I suggest you take notes or insert a bookmark of some kind. Do NOT fold my pages though. Although I am a book, that doesn’t mean I can’t cut you.
The level that a resonator is resonating at dictates the level of speed, attack potency, and destructive capability of that resonator. These levels are indicated by the Level Gauge displayed on their character profiles and while in combat in Versus. For a better understanding of each level on the gauge, please refer to the Glossary, which is directed by my colleague, Secretary.
Leveling
Up
Resonators do not have a base level during a death battle or an in-character versus battle. They may choose the level they want to start before the battle begins. Resonators will not exceed their max level on the Level Gauge eagerly. The only time a resonator must be at a set level is when they are attempting to capture a Manifestation. Resonators must set their level to the Manifestation’s level at the beginning of the battle. The only way they can increase their level is if the Manifestation’s level increases or if they need to temporarily increase their level to use an ability that requires that level.
WHen you read the descriptions for the abilities of characters in versus, you will hopefully notice that there is often a mention of a skill or ability only working on a target on or below the level of the character in question. This is an intenional limitation on the abilities of these characters created by the God of Fiction and conveyed to KingLion and MidnightDre to balance the characters. A character on or below the level of thier attacker will take the full desired effect of any skill or ability that successfully lands on them unless something else intervenes to prevent it. Now you’re probably thinking, “Well then a character just needs to exceed the level of their attacker to ignore the attack completely” and I am here to tell you that you are wrong. The EFFECt of the attack may be ignored to some degree depending on the skill or ability in question, but the damage will not.
For example, if a charcter at level 10 throws an explosive fireball at a character at level 15, the level 15 character will still take the impact of the explosion and likely be singed by the flames, but they will not be set on fire. If the roles were reversed, the level 10 character would take the blast from the explosion and be set on fire in the process should they survive the blast.
Comedy
&
Defiance
Comedy and Defiance are levels that break the level gauge. These can be activated at any time during a death battle or an in-character death battle but when dealing with a manifestation, it can only be used if the manifestation itself is also using Comedy or Defiance. See the Glossary for more information.
Melanin
Cells
Melanin Cells are a unique power system to Versus. HOWEVER, should characters from Versus be the subject to a debate between two humans where one of you would seek to put them up against characters from the God of Fiction’s wealth of knowledge and creation, this system WILL ALSO go with them. I hope you heed this warning when engaging in debates with more melanin-deficient characters.
Resonators use melanin cells to resonate with any fictional characters and to sustain their power while being linked. The more melanin a character produces, the more their body changes, the higher their level, the more of the fictional character’s physical aspects and traits the resonator will take on.
Immunities
Immunities use melanin cells like the human body uses its immune system to fight off certain ailments or diseases, but in this case, the melanin cells act as a defensive force to the resonator that they inhabit.
(Warning) immunities are only effective when going against opponents who are of equal level or below. so if a resonator is fighting a character that is above their level, their immunities do not negate that character’s abilities. A character must be equal to or above the level of another to have their immunity immunize them against the skills and abilities of another.
